Well... last night God gave me the most precious 11 verses from Psalms to pray for the members of the Bereaved Parents Support Group I attend each week. Psalm 46 just spoke to me deeply - and so I decided that if I have to pray it for 13 people, I should have it memorized - just cut to the chase and make it easier.
So... There it is I am sitting at the table, and I memorized 3 verses... "God is our strength and refuge. A very present help in trouble. Therefore, I will not fear. Though the earth be removed and the mountains carried into the midst of the sea. Though the waters roar, and be troubled; Though the mountains be shaken by it's swelling. Selah (Pause, and calmly think of that!)
It was such a moment of victory to begin the small but daunting task I had chosen. I had heard of chapter memorization before, but always thought, "I could never do that!"
I then added this to my memory list: "There is a river whose streams made glad the city of God. The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is with her, she shall not be moved. God will help her, just at the break of dawn."
Then... as I realized I was really doing it I added: "Though the nations rage, kingdoms are moved; He utters His voice and the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah (Pause and calmly think of that!)
Whooo-Hooo! I was half way through --- actually more, but anyway! Two more? "Come behold the works of the Lord who has made desolations in the earth. He makes the war to cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two. He burns the chariots in the fire."
Okay... I am in the home stretch, sooo I went to bed - it was 1:30 AM. This morning I recited my verses to my hubby on the way to work and when I returned home from dropping him off, I sat down and finished my labor of love: "Be still and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah (Pause, and calmly consider that!)"
I could not stand it - it was a glorious victory and I have been repeating the verse all day long! I love it - Now I am going to tackle memorizing Obadiah or Jude... Then I can say I have memorized a whole book! LOL! I really intend to memorize more chapters, but I truly want to nail this one down completely.
Hope your weekend is soooo blessed!

How awesome, Michelle! I really want to memorize scripture, too. Your post has inspired me to try a little harder in this area.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
Such a blessing! He will speak to you through these verses you have hidden in your heart.
