A Lettter to the Retiring President of the United States

November 5, 2008

The Honorable George W. Bush
43rd President of the United States of America
The White House1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NWWashington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

I wanted to write and tell you that as Paul wrote to the Philippians in the first chapter of the book bearing that name, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” You, Mr. Bush, are an honorable man and have been a good President.

I know there is much ado on the news waves these days about how the miserable failure of the economy is your fault, that Iraq and the related military campaign’s have been failures, and that you are responsible for the demise of the Republican Party in this election year. Mr. President, the news, the pundits and the people have it wrong. You are one man who willingly took the office of President in a time of incredible change. Our world will never be the same again. It changed forever on September 11, 2001. I for one am grateful that you were the man in the White House on that day. It does not fall deafly on the ears of this American that for the past seven years our country and its interests have not encountered another terrorist attack. You have made a difference.

As you leave the White House and the office of President in the next three months, I ask that you pray for President Elect Obama and our nation. I know you will, but Mr. President please do not lose heart. Your legacy will outlive the careers of those who have sought to tear you down. Tell Mr. Obama the truth about the threats against our nation and the Democratic congress that he now will bear responsibility for.

Mr. President, there is an old saying, “When all you have is lemons, make lemonade.” You made lemonade. Your Presidency was marked with even great success in spite of the troubled economy and the terrorist attacks that you inherited from the failed policies of a Clinton Administration. There are people out here who think for themselves and have reviewed the facts and see that YOU, Mr. President did much to help us. You did your job to the best of your ability and you trusted God to do the rest – nothing more could be said.

I am sure in hindsight you see things you could have done differently, and choices that might have been better for this nation. However, I would rather have a President who I believe hits his knees daily and trusts in the Lord God who made this country great every day for more than 200 years and makes a bad decision than someone who makes all the right decisions without God. You, Mr. President, led our nation in the most troubling time of recent history – you did your job well.

Perhaps, the only thing I would encourage you to consider is how you spent and stewarded the resources of this nation. Fiscal responsibility has long been absent in our national government, and I have no doubt the Democratic led Congress played a major role in depleting the public coffers these last couple of years. Mr. President – please do not carry any recrimination or condemnation for the things that were done poorly during your term in office – learn from them and pass those lessons on to the next generation. There is plenty of responsibility to go around. In the days ahead, hold your head high, and leave office the way you came in with a charming word and smile. You are a man who sought God in office regardless of the outcome. History will bear out the truth and you will be held in high regard in this American’s heart. You are a good man and I believe that God brought you to the White House for exactly the season in which you served. May God bless you, Laura and your family as you make the transition into the private sector again. Much success and many blessings to you. Thank you.

I will be praying for you and your leadership in the days ahead.

Blessings.

This iS EXcellENT.

I've written several letters to George Bush over the last eight years. I know for certain that he personally read only ONE because I rec'd a reply. The rest: who knows what staff does with 'em.

You've encouraged me to send yet another - steeped in eternal gratitude for his unwavering faith in Almighty God. What a contrast between #43 & #44!

...but Almight God is in the business of changing hearts! Who knows? Al Gore's former running mate endorsed JohnMcCain this go-around!!!!

Many Christians 'fall" and the world is quick to put the spotlight there. God's hand still works at changing the hardest hearts --softening them to HIS Guiding and HIS Plan.

...but I ramble... and this is YOUR blog. All that to say: PRAY! Pray - and I know you are -- for Mr. Obama.
